Having always been interested in art and design I took
an Art Foundation course at Coventry University in 1991, specialising in textile design. I then
went on to gain a 1st class Honours degree in textile design
and surface decoration at Buckinghamshire College High Wycombe
in 1995.
During my degree I developed a love of silk. I
became fascinated by how it could be manipulated using screen
printing techniques. Throughout the course I decided to
specialise in screen printing and produced a Japanese themed
final show. By printing imagery of natural and man made
patterns in everyday Japanese life, I combined images of
bamboo and traffic jams.
Whilst at University, I became
interested in photography. I learnt the process of using
cameras, developing my own photographs and then using them
on screens and printing onto silk.
Almost 10 years on, my interest in photography has turned
digital and I have replaced screen printing with a computer.
However, my love for images depicting patterns remains the
same. Each card design is inspired by regular and irregular
patterns of nature; the sea, waves, sand, petals on flowers
and leaves on trees.
